IT security update – be vigilant

We are always monitoring IT community message boards and mailing lists for prior warning of potentially dangerous malware attacks on our network.

We are currently aware that organisations have been targeted by malware known as CryptoLocker. Users will see a tracking notice from a shipping company such as FedEx, UPS etc. either through email or social media and as it looks from a legitimate contact, open it. They are then infected by malware which encrypts files, stops software from running and corrupts documents. If you are in doubt of the validity of an email – delete it.

Issue accessing email

Some of our users are reporting that they cannot login to their email accounts and receive the error message, “username or password is incorrect”.

When you are prompted to reset your password you MUST change it to something different. If you use the same password it will not synchronise with the directory that our email system checks again.

If you are experiencing this issue, please change your password within the Password Management Portal to a different password.

If you continue to experience an issue accessing email please contact Service Desk.

Issues with using Office 365 and Firefox – No:77150

Microsoft has received reports of an issue where some customers using Firefox 23 or Firefox 24 are experiencing issues when composing new mail in the Outlook Web App (OWA).

Customers may see the form begin to load, then see the tool bar disappear. Engineers are continuing to deploy a patch to address the issue. The current workaround is to expand the Firefox browser to full screen mode, where the tool bar will re-appear. The next update will be provided by 10.00pm UTC  (11pm BST) on Wednesday 2 October 2013 , or upon restoration.
