Complying with Cookies Law – Change No: 255

In order to comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 the University must add a notice to each external-facing University webpage. We will add a notice to all external-facing University webpages that are contained within the CMS (Terminal 4) on Tuesday 9 July. This notice will state “This website uses cookies. If you continue to use this site, you indicate that you consent to our use of cookies. Click here for more information and our policy”.

What do I need to do?

If the webpages you edit are contained within the CMS then you don’t need to do anything. This change will be applied to the University template for you.

If you manage University webpages that are not contained within the CMS:

  1. You must add the following code just before the closing body tag of each web page. Note, there is a dependency on jQuery.

    We request that you do this as soon as possible.
  2. We recommend that you perform an audit on the cookies and check if they are still required. An audit by Web Development showed that there around 4000 cookies across the University pages.
  3.  You should enquire with the vendor that the information required by this legislation is provided on any third party managed online system.
