Central Learning & Teaching Desktop Refresh 2013/14 (with Office 2013)

From 1st August, 2013, we will be rolling out the refreshed Central Learning & Teaching (CLT) Desktop (the desktop used on PCs in central IT suites and teaching areas) for 2013/14. This version includes Office 2013 and the latest versions of Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Oracle Java, Firefox, Endnote and Google Chrome.

Office 2013 is the latest version of Microsoft Office. From September 1 2013, Office 2013 will also be provided as standard on the Managed Desktop/Laptop. To help you get the most out of this software visit our Office 2013 support page.

While we work to roll this out we will be closing some learning and teaching spaces. Find out where PCs are available at the IT suite availability page.

Local analysts who support department IT suites and teaching rooms have been contacted separately and will be rolling out the CLT refresh in these areas at the same time.

Phishing emails

We have received a report that a phishing email has been sent to users in the University. This email appears to have been sent from the University and instructs users to upgrade their email by navigating to a website where they then enter their username and password.

Please be aware that Service Desk would never request your password. When you log into a service you can be certain that it is a secure site by checking the website address carefully and looking for https:// at the start of the address.

What are we doing?

In addition to alerting you to this we have adjusted our spam filter settings to block this address.

What should users do if they have been affected?

If you have received any suspicious emails please forward them to If you have provided your username and password  after being prompted by an email, please change your password at the Password Management Portal. You can find a link to this on the ICS homepage – for security reasons we have not included a link in the email. You should then contact Service Desk as soon as possible.

Update – SITS Document Manager files storage change

Minor change to SITS Document Manager – 25 July

Note: This only affects those using the SITS client. Those using the web (eVision) are unaffected.

This change, made on Monday 22 July was primarily to move the location of temporary files generated by SITS Document Manager. It also moves other files generated by SITS, to the same location, and this update is to explain how to find these files if needed.

Update: Essential upgrades to telephony and network service – 19 & 20 July

Update: 22 July 2013 – 10.40pm

Some users reported they were unable to access the network in the Scrymgeour Building first thing this morning. This was resolved quickly and we do not anticipate any further disruptions as a result of this work. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

As part of a programme of essential, on-going work,  network maintenance will be carried out between 6pm on Friday 19 July and 5pm on Saturday 20 July. We will upgrade to newer and improved equipment and move and replace connections. This work will enhance connectivity to the network and telephony systems and improve resilience to the service.

While this work is being carried out staff in Park Place, Scrymgeour Building and Bonar Hall will experience interruptions if using the network and telephony systems.
