Completed – Enable Shibboleth pre-authentication to eVision – No: 556

On Tuesday 2nd December at 9am, a change will be made to the eVision login process using Shibboleth, a technology that enables single sign on.

What does this mean for you?

Using a web browser already logging into a Shibboleth enabled University service such as My Dundee, you will not be prompted to login to eVision. Authentication to eVision will be automatic.

Issue using email – NHS – No: 111983

Update 25th November 2014

Some staff and external contacts continue to report an issue sending emails to University email addresses.

Mail delivery failure message: Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists: a.n.other@dundee.ac.uk. The recipient’s e-mail address was not found in the recipient’s e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

Our technical team are working with our supplier and business partners within the NHS. We have established a work-around which can be carried out by the email sender.

  1. Open a new message
  2. Type the first few characters of the name of the person you wish to email
  3. When the list of suggested names appears (via autocomplete) move the mouse over the name
  4. Delete the name by clicking the ‘X’ next to it or highlighting it and pressing the delete button
  5. Type the email address manually e.g. address@domain.ac.uk
  6. Send the message.

UoD IT staff meeting – 18th Nov – 11am to 1pm – requests for support

On Tuesday 18th November, between 11am – 1pm, UoD IT staff will be attending a department monthly meeting.

  • Logging on to Help4U Self-Service Portal and completing the online form – you can also check the progress of any existing calls

Scheduled Maintenance: Tuesday 18 November

UoD IT will be undertaking a number of minor changes during the scheduled maintenance period 07:00 – 09:00 on Tuesday 18 November 2014.

  • Wireless Service: rollback of software to minimise the number of re-authentications users are experiencing. Please note that this work may extend until 11:00 hours.
  • Outlook: a change to the configuration of Outlook will be made and will aim to reduce the slowness users are experiencing with the Outlook client.

This month’s Windows 7 update release will includes Internet Explorer 11 and an enterprise hotfix patch. These updates will requires a reboot of your PC to complete the installation.

  • IE11: the default for Internet Explorer (IE) on the Staff Desktop will be updated to IE11 (Note: the Student Desktop already uses IE11). This change will take effect on Wednesday 19 November.
  • Desktop performance: a Windows enterprise hotfix rollup patch will be deployed to both Staff and Student desktops. This patch should improve the performance of Windows 7. This change will take effect on Wednesday 19 November.​

University telephone voicemail change

As a result of an upgrade to the Telephony System you now have a new voicemail service on your office telephone.

New voicemail service access:

  • You should access your voicemail by pressing the ‘messages’ button or using the number 16200.
  • You will be prompted to enter a PIN number. Use the initial PIN number 102030 and then follow the prompt to:
    • Change your greeting
    • Change your PIN to a six digit number that you will remember (note: like your password do not use something that others will guess)

If you are having difficulties accessing voicemail please wait 10 minutes before trying again.

Old voicemail service access:

  • As this is a new voicema​il service, your older voicemail messages that you have saved can be accessed in a different way.
  • To access your old voicemail dial the number 16300 and enter your old password.

Discovery Research Portal/Pure System upgrade

On Tuesday 04 November 2014, between 07:00 – 09:00, engineers from Elsevier/Atira (suppliers of Pure) plan to carry out an upgrade that will affect access to the Discovery Research Portal and the Pure system. This work will take up to 2 hours. During this period there will be no access to the portal or Pure. If you have any questions or concerns about this work please contact Service Desk quoting change reference number 508.

Update:

The upgrade was completed at 08:38 this morning and the version of Pure has been updated to 4.19.2-5. Initial checks indicate that the system is working correctly and we are continuing to check detailed functionality. Note that there are several new features in this version so please let us know if there are any issues/questions regarding these.
