University File Servers – Keeping you informed

Our current hypothesis as to why the filestore outages are occurring at the moment revolves around the idea that the backup client is trawling the filesystem and making the system unstable. To this end, we have turned off tape backups and will monitor for a week.(Don’t worry everything is still backed up – twice). If we have stability for this period of time, we know the backup components are the cause and can concentrate our efforts on an alternative way to get backups to tape. Fingers crossed for a week of uninterrupted filestore access!

Resolved – Box Web Application unavailable for users – Number: 132873

Update: We have had confirmation that the issues accessing Box this morning, and some reported network slowness were all due to an issue with the JANET network in Manchester. When traffic was routed via London (avoiding Manchester) normal service was restored. JANET are investigating further. JANET is a high-speed network for the UK research and education community.

Original Issue:

Box Web Application is unavailable for all users. We are aware of the issue and working to resolve it as soon as possible.

University File Servers – An Update

We are delighted to say that we have not experienced any server instability since my last update.

The team are still monitoring all the systems first thing every morning to ensure we are fully operational for the day ahead, all systems now have had the memory available to them quadrupled.

We are still investigating the root cause and will keep you updated as this progresses.

Planned outage of NHS Tayside WiFi Monday May 4th – Today

NHS Tayside will be upgrading their wireless access points today Monday 4 May 2015 between 15:00 and 23:00, so the various Access Points will be down for 5 minutes or so as they upgrade.
This is to be a rolling upgrade, so we can expect wireless provision to be affected at random times throughout Ninewells areas covered by NHS wireless, PRI and Stracathro.
If the affected NHS Access Point is distributing UoDWiFi this will also be unavailable during this period.
