Connect2Campus (C2C) service decommission

This University service will be powered-off and the hardware it sits on retired on Thu 23 Mar 2017.

What is it?
This service was initially introduced to students and staff in the School of Medicine in 2009 and acted primarily as an email access system. It gave users a standard, secure route back to their UoD email from beyond the University network – i.e. from the NHS network.

Who will this affect?
It is clear that C2C usage is low after consulting the recent user log. This activity should therefore have minimal impact.

Why the goodbye?
There is no longer a requirement for C2C following the replacement of the old groupwise email system with Microsoft Office365. The removal also feeds into the University’s drive for consolidation, which will see an entire data centre (CER1) retired within the coming year and help to transform network service capability.

OTI basement & ground floor – wireless network changes

Planned maintenance is scheduled to take place on the wireless network in the Old Technical Institute (OTI) on Tue 21 Mar from 07:00-09:00.

What impact will this have?
The wifi service will be offline in the OTI basement and ground floor during this work window. Downtime is not expected to last the full 2hrs, although we ask that you consider the wireless provision at risk here for the duration of the maintenance period.

How will I get online?
Staff members should be aware that the wired connection (for anything plugged into the wall via ethernet cable, such as desktop PCs) will not be affected by this work.

What are the benefits?
Gaining wifi access will be more seamless and consistent for individuals at this location thereafter.

Why are we doing this?
This work is required to remedy issues with customers having sporadic access to the wireless system.

Timetabling and Room-booking System Upgrade

A planned maintenance window has been agreed to allow for an upgrade to the software that supplies our Timetabling and Room-booking facilities. Changes will be made on Tue 14 Mar from 09:00 until Wed 15 Mar 15:00.

As a result, the following services will be unavailable for the duration of this time:

Staff Printing

We had reports of an issue with printing this morning that included disruptions when sending documents from Microsoft Word to print. The team have been working to investigate the problem and can now confirm the issue has been resolved.

Seabraes Accommodation | Power work affecting IT network

This planned work was reported to us by Sanctuary Students and will affect your IT provision. Expect network interruption in your accommodation throughout Mon 13 Mar that may extend into Tues 14 Mar while essential electrical repairs take place.

Sanctuary Students has issued an email to residents outlining why this is necessary and what else it will impact.
